Escape the Heat: Scenic Hikes in the Brenta Dolomites

15.07.2026

Less than an hour’s drive from Trento is all it takes to find yourself surrounded by alpine meadows, fragrant forests, and breathtaking landscapes that look as though they’ve been lifted straight from a postcard. When summer temperatures rise in the city, the Brenta Dolomites become the perfect destination for a day trip, offering panoramic trails and refreshing mountain air.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Brenta Dolomites are among the most spectacular mountain ranges in Trentino. Towering peaks, dramatic rock faces, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and welcoming mountain huts create the perfect setting for hikes that are also suitable for less experienced walkers.

If you’re staying at Hotel Be Place, you can enjoy a relaxed start to your day, head out to explore one of these beautiful trails, and return to the hotel in the afternoon with unforgettable photos and the light, refreshing feeling that only a day in the mountains can bring.

Rifugio Croz dell’Altissimo

One of the area’s most popular hikes leads to Rifugio Croz dell’Altissimo, above Molveno.

The trail winds through spruce forests and scenic alpine clearings, alternating shaded sections with increasingly impressive views of the Brenta Dolomites’ dramatic rock walls. The climb is steady but never too demanding, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience mountain hiking without tackling overly technical routes.

Once you reach the mountain hut, the panorama is well worth the effort. The imposing cliffs of Croz dell’Altissimo rise directly before you, while Lake Molveno sparkles below, adding a vibrant splash of colour to the landscape.

It’s our favourite place to stop for lunch and enjoy traditional Trentino cuisine before heading back down.

From Pradel to Rifugio Montanara

If you’re looking for an easy walk with spectacular scenery, this is one of the best options.

Starting from Pradel, which can also be reached by cable car from Molveno, the trail passes through alpine pastures and woodlands before arriving at Rifugio Montanara. The path is well marked and suitable for families as well as anyone who prefers gentle walks with minimal elevation gain.

Once you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with extraordinary views over Lake Molveno, the Brenta Dolomites, and Mount Paganella. On clear days, the changing light makes the surrounding cliffs even more spectacular, especially in the early morning and late afternoon.

Giro delle Malghette

Those looking to fully immerse themselves in the peace and quiet of the mountains should choose the Giro delle Malghette trail in the Madonna di Campiglio area.

This pleasant route crosses forests, alpine meadows, and traditional mountain farms that are still used during the summer season. The trail is relatively easy and allows you to enjoy continuous views of the lush landscape and the surrounding Brenta peaks.

It’s the perfect hike for breathing in fresh mountain air and taking a break at one of the mountain huts along the way—perhaps while sampling locally produced alpine cheeses.

Lake Nambino

No list of Trentino’s most beautiful hikes would be complete without the trail to Lake Nambino.

From the car park near Madonna di Campiglio, an easy forest path leads to one of the area’s most picturesque alpine lakes in about an hour.

The crystal-clear water reflects the surrounding mountains, creating an unforgettable setting. Time seems to slow down here. Some visitors relax by the lakeshore, others enjoy lunch at the mountain hut overlooking the lake, while many simply take in the peaceful silence.

It’s also an ideal destination for photography lovers, thanks to the ever-changing interplay of light between the forest, the lake, and the surrounding Dolomite peaks.

Vallesinella: Waterfalls and Dramatic Cliffs

If you’re looking for a hike that combines breathtaking scenery with flowing water, Val di Vallesinella is an excellent choice.

The trails through this beautiful valley lead to the famous Vallesinella Waterfalls, surrounded by a cool, refreshing environment even on the hottest summer days.

The soothing sound of rushing water accompanies much of the walk, while the forest provides natural shade and stunning views of the Brenta Dolomites’ towering cliffs.

The route can easily be adapted to the time you have available, with options ranging from short walks to longer hikes leading to mountain huts at higher elevations.

So, Which Mountain Is the Most Beautiful? The One You Can Enjoy at Your Own Pace

The Brenta Dolomites are close enough for an easy day trip, yet vast and diverse enough to offer something different every time: an alpine lake, a panoramic mountain hut, a hidden waterfall, or simply a peaceful trail surrounded by nature.

So pack your backpack, lace up your hiking boots, and let your sense of adventure lead the way. The most beautiful views often begin with a simple path.
