\nHere are some of the most fascinating ones, in our opinion, to explore in just half a day.<\/p>\n

Castel Beseno<\/strong><\/h2>\n

About 25 minutes from Trento, Castel Beseno is the largest fortified complex in Trentino.
\nThe first thing that strikes you is its location. The castle overlooks the valley from above and seems suspended between the sky and the vineyards. But the real surprise comes once you step inside.
\nWalking among bastions, courtyards, and ancient pathways feels like entering a place that is still alive. And, like every respectable castle, it comes with its own legends.
\nThe most famous is the tale of the \u201cBlack Knight,\u201d a sinister figure said to have ruled the castle with cruelty and oppression, and who is still believed to appear from time to time. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the atmosphere here is undeniably unique.<\/p>\n

Castel Drena<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the Garda Trentino area, just over an hour from Trento, Castel Drena looks like something straight out of a medieval storybook.
\nIt stands on a rocky cliff overlooking the Sarca Valley, and even the road leading there is worth the trip.
\nAccording to legend, an enormous treasure was hidden within these walls, guarded by the devil himself after the castle\u2019s inhabitants fled.
\nThis ancient manor is especially perfect if you love castles that feel rough, authentic, and untouched by time.<\/p>\n

Castel Caldes<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Val di Sole, about an hour and a half from Trento, lies one of the most fascinating castles in the area: Castel Caldes.
\nThe legend of Olinda and Arunte still lingers here \u2014 a tragic love story often compared to Romeo and Juliet.
\nOlinda was promised to a man she did not love, but she fell in love with the court minstrel instead. Her father, furious about the relationship, had Arunte killed and imprisoned his daughter inside the castle.
\nLegend says that Olinda\u2019s ghost still wanders through the rooms today.
\nAt Castel Caldes, the interiors, frescoes, and panoramic setting all contribute to making the visit especially atmospheric.<\/p>\n

Castel Nanno<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Val di Non is home to many castles, each with its own legend, but Castel Nanno has something truly different about it.
\nHere people tell the story of Melisenda and Ludovico, two young lovers from rival families. When their love was discovered, legend says they were buried alive within the castle walls.
\nIt is a dramatic story that still accompanies guided tours today and makes the place particularly evocative.
\nWhat also makes Castel Nanno special is its setting: vineyards, silence, and a valley that seems made to preserve ancient stories.<\/p>\n

Castel San Pietro<\/strong><\/h2>\n

For those who love less touristy places, Castel San Pietro is a hidden gem.
\nToday, only ruins remain, perched above the valley and reachable via a short walk through the woods. But that is exactly what makes it so special.
\nLegend says the castle was struck by a curse and gradually abandoned over time.
\nWhether true or not, reaching this place really feels like discovering something forgotten. And the view over the valley fully rewards the climb.<\/p>\n

Castello d\u2019Altaguardia<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Among them all, this may be the most scenic. Castello d\u2019Altaguardia overlooks the valley from more than 1,200 meters above sea level and is considered the highest castle in Trentino.
