\nBuilt in 1210 at the request of Prince-Bishop Federico Vanga, the tower originally served a strategic purpose: it controlled access to Doss Trento and watched over the nearby Ponte San Lorenzo. At the time, the Adige River flowed much closer to the tower than it does today.
\nIts story didn’t end in the Middle Ages. During the early nineteenth century, the tower was converted into a prison, and traces of this chapter remain visible in the graffiti and inscriptions carved by prisoners into its walls and windows. Torre Vanga also appears in the famous watercolor painted by Albrecht D\u00fcrer during his journey through Trento in 1495.
