There are winter days when you don’t feel like ski lifts, lift passes, or crowded slopes. Days when all you want to do is walk, breathe in fresh air, and hear the soft crunch of snow beneath your feet.
Snowshoeing is a slow, authentic way to experience the mountains — accessible to everyone and perfect even for first-timers.
From Trento, in less than an hour, you can reach destinations that are ideal for easy, scenic, and never boring snowshoe walks. Among them, Andalo and Folgaria are two places we often recommend to our guests.
Discover what awaits you.
Andalo is one of those destinations that appeals to everyone: families, couples, relaxed walkers, and those trying snowshoes for the first time. In winter, the Paganella Plateau changes its look, turning into a network of groomed trails, fir forests, and breathtaking views of the Brenta Dolomites.
Why choose Andalo for an easy snowshoe walk
Recommended routes
One of the most popular routes is the snowshoe walk across the Andalo Plain. The trail is mostly flat and winds through quiet woods with open views of snow-covered peaks.
For those looking for something a bit more challenging without any real difficulty, the trails leading to Croz dell’Altissimo Mountain Hut or through the wooded areas at the foot of Mount Paganella allow you to walk a little longer, stop for a break, and enjoy the scenery at a relaxed pace. Snowshoeing in Andalo is especially beautiful early in the morning, when the snow is still untouched, or in the afternoon, when the light warms the peaks and softens the landscape. Many mountain huts along the routes remain open in winter, making a hot chocolate or a traditional Trentino dish part of the experience.
If Andalo feels bright and orderly, Folgaria is more intimate and secluded. The Alpe Cimbra is the right place if you’re looking for an emotionally rich snowshoeing experience. You’ll walk through dense forests, quiet clearings, and places steeped in history, especially in areas linked to World War I.
Why Folgaria is perfect for beginners
Recommended routes
One of the most charming options is the snowshoe walk around Lake Lavarone — flat, relaxing, and perfect even on the coldest days.
The area around Forte Belvedere is also very popular. Here, the trail alternates between forest sections and open spaces with views over the plateau. Snowshoeing here feels like a journey through time, where nature and history come together. Folgaria is also an ideal destination for sunset snowshoe walks, when the sky changes color and the atmosphere becomes almost suspended in time.
Even though these are easy snowshoe routes, a few tips can make the experience even more enjoyable:
Many destinations also offer guided snowshoe tours — perfect if you want to explore the area at a relaxed pace and without worries.
From the City to the Snow
One of the things that surprises visitors staying in Trento the most is how close the mountains are. In less than an hour, you can leave the traffic behind, put on your snowshoes, and find yourself surrounded by white landscapes — then return to the city in the afternoon, still carrying the scent of the forest with you.
And after a day like that, going back to the hotel, taking a hot shower, and thinking back on your footsteps in the snow becomes part of the journey.
